Start with a focused image

An image may contain a receipt, a notice, a screenshot or a photographed paragraph. Crop to the content you need and keep the original copy. Avoid cutting through characters along the edge. Straight, sharp text is generally easier to recognize than text photographed at an angle.

02

Recognized text needs structure

Even when the characters are mostly correct, line breaks may not reflect the intended paragraphs. A receipt may mix item names, quantities and prices. Review the reading order before pasting extracted text into a report or spreadsheet. Preserve important labels and units beside their values.

03

A small review workflow

Compare the first and last line with the image to catch missing sections. Then check every number, abbreviation and unfamiliar name. Remove unwanted line breaks only after you understand the original structure. Keep a link or filename reference to the source if another person needs to verify the transcription.

Availability in Folio

Image to Text is coming soon. JPG to PDF is available, but wrapping an image in a PDF does not perform OCR and does not make the text searchable. For selectable text already stored in a PDF, choose PDF to Text. Use an OCR-capable application when you need image recognition today.
